Citations

REMINDER: All CBA students should have a flash drive or use network storage

The citation format most commonly used is MLA, but CBA also supports APA, Chicago, and Turabian as acceptable citation formats. The choice of format depends on the classroom instructor.

MLA citation examples

Start with the citation generator on your project page (remember, jr. high students have a different generator than high school students!) Use these examples for items the generator may not cover, or that you want to check.

Who is ultimately responsible for the accuracy of your citations? You are. Check the style manual if you have questions.

Parenthetical citation examples in PDF, with Works Cited page A PDF, not a webpage, this document has nonsense text, but demonstrates the MLA standards for inline citations and inline and inset quotes. The "Works Cited" page is also shown. You can print this document or save it to your flash drive.

Inline Citation used with an Outline and compared with the Works Cited page

You might be asked to write an outline for a paper, and include the inline citations for the research you have done. This enables your instructor to check the structure of your paper, and see that you have performed enough research to support your conclusions. This page shows how the inline citations look in an outline, and correlates them to the Works Cited page.

Note: On a Works Cited page, the entries are alphabetized, and indented with the "hanging" paragraph format.

See the Technical Help page for details of how to do this in MS Word.

Remember: Standard MLA formatting means 1" margins, 4 line MLA style header on the first page, continuous (including the first page) pagination .5" from the top of the page, and 12 point font, generally Times New Roman. (If permitted by your instructor, Ariel can also be acceptable).
