Big 6 Research Method

1.1. Define the problem

1.2 Identify the information requirements

Task: Research and teach the class about one of the letters of St. Paul.

RESEARCH: You will write a 2-3 page paper + Works Cited page. Your research paper is an individual effort, worth 100 points total.

Questions to Address in your paper:

  1. When was this letter likely written?
  2. Who is it addressed to?
  3. Where does the letter’s title come from? If it’s named after a place, describe the city and where it was located.
  4. Did Paul write it, or his followers?
  5. If Paul wrote it, where was he at the time he was writing?
  6. Why was this letter written?
  7. What are the main messages that the letter contained?
  8. How can Christians today live out the message of the letter?

Worksheet

You will be graded on correct usage of the MLA format. You will make a Works Cited page and use parenthetical citations as needed.

You must have a minimum of four academically credentialed sources, two of which must come from books. You may use the Catholic Youth Bible as one of your sources, but it cannot take the place of a book source (if the Bible is one of your sources, you must have two additional books).

DUE: Friday April 24th in class

2.1 Determine kinds of sources

2.2 Prioritize sources

Books, Internet, databases, newspapers, tv (news)

Books: have older, but more carefully researched, information

Databases: current and reliable information - depending on your topic, may be too limited

Internet: more current information, but need to be careful; look for credentials

3.1 Locate actual resources

3.2 Locate information

Books: 225.9

Databases: Facts on File Ancient and Medieval History Online; Gale Religion and Philosophy Database

Internet: Google, but be careful of credentials - do NOT use travel agency sites!
